German EPP MEP and Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs David McAllister told Guildhall that Russia’s repeated violations of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of neighbouring states continue to undermine stability and security across Europe.

How do you assess Russia’s recent actions toward Georgia and Armenia?
Russia’s illegal, unprovoked and unjustified war of aggression against Ukraine constitutes a blatant violation of international law and an unprecedented attack on the European peace order. The Kremlin’s repeated breaches of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of neighbouring states continue to undermine stability and security across Europe.
What should be the European Union’s response to these developments?
The European Union must remain united and resolute. This includes continued support for Ukraine, stronger protection against foreign interference and close cooperation with like-minded partners. Stability in Europe requires long-term commitment.
What measures of pressure could be applied to compel the Russian Federation to abandon its expansionist ambitions?
The European Union is responding firmly to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Sanctions, diplomatic pressure and assistance are important tools. At the same time, we need to strengthen our own defence, reduce vulnerabilities and invest more in security. Credible deterrence is essential.
Exclusively for Guildhall.
