Swedish private jet brokerage company Avinode must be investigated by prosecutors after reportedly helping wealthy Russians arrange trips to Europe through third-country structures, Swedish MEP Jonas Sjöstedt told Guildhall.

“This is a company called Avinode, and they are, I would say, Europe’s leading company when it comes to acting as a broker for private jets. Rich people who want to find a private jet can use such a company, and they can organize everything for them,” Sjöstedt said.
“Now it turns out, by investigative journalism from Swedish television, that they also helped these super rich Russians to go on vacations, to go shopping in Europe, and to go by private jet,” he said.
According to Sjöstedt, the alleged scheme involved companies registered in third countries.
“What they do is that they have a system where they register a company in a third country, be it Cyprus or Kazakhstan or Turkey, and then they organize the trips for the Russians through this company. But I mean, it is all fake, it is all for the Russian power elite,” the MEP said.
Sjöstedt stressed that the company’s promise to review the matter is not enough.
“This company was very embarrassed, of course. They promised to look into this and stop doing it. I do not think that is enough. I think this has to go to the prosecutor. This has to be looked into because it is a clear breach of the sanctions,” he said.
“If they have breached the sanctions, an excuse is not enough. There has to be some kind of penalty,” Sjöstedt added.
