Europe must reduce its strategic vulnerability in the energy sector, as dependence on external suppliers directly affects its security and sustainability.
This was stated by Daniel Obaytek, a member of the European Parliament from Poland, in a comment to Guildhall.

“Europe must first reduce its strategic vulnerabilities in the energy sector. For too long, part of Europe has been heavily dependent on external suppliers, especially authoritarian regimes. The lesson of recent years is clear: energy security is national security,” Obaytek said.
According to him, in order to achieve greater energy independence, Europe needs to simultaneously diversify both its energy balance and the range of suppliers.
“Europe must diversify its energy balance and its suppliers. This means strengthening domestic energy production, maintaining reliable basic generation, such as nuclear power, as well as investing in infrastructure, such as LNG terminals and interconnections that allow energy to move across borders,” he said.
At the same time, the MEP noted that the development of new technologies and renewable energy should not undermine Europe’s economic stability.
“At the same time, Europe must support innovation and technological development, including in the field of renewable energy, but in a way that is economically sustainable and does not undermine competitiveness,” Obaitek said.
He also pointed out the need to reduce regulatory barriers that hinder investments in energy and strategic infrastructure.
“It is equally important to reduce excessive regulatory barriers that slow down energy investment. Europe needs faster licensing procedures and policies that will encourage private investment in strategic energy infrastructure,” he concluded.
Earlier, in a comment to Guildhall, Mikhail Gonchar, President of the Strategy XXI Center for Global Studies, said that Western countries have opportunities to increase oil production outside the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), and the increase in oil prices amid the escalation around Iran has no fundamental economic basis.
