The European Union must firmly закрепить its rejection of Russian energy supplies as a long-term strategic course and bring the implementation of the Versailles Declaration to completion. Even in the event of a possible peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, Russian and Belarusian gas, fossil fuels, and petroleum products must not return to the EU market.
This was stated in a comment to Guildhall by Senator of the Republic of Poland Kazimierz Michał Ujazdowski.

According to the Polish senator, “the European Union must complete the implementation of the Versailles Declaration,” because “the Russian Federation uses fossil fuels as a political and military instrument against its rivals.”
He stressed that this is precisely why “Russian and Belarusian natural gas, fossil fuels, and petroleum products must not be allowed into the EU even after a possible peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia.” In his assessment, “independence from Russian energy supplies must remain a permanent element of European strategy.”
The senator also recalled that “successive Polish governments, regardless of their political orientation, have repeatedly emphasized this,” including by “actively opposing the construction of Nord Stream 2.” At the same time, he stated: “I highly appreciate the efforts undertaken by the European Commission in this direction, as well as the legal acts already adopted, collectively referred to as RePowerEU.”
He separately pointed to the need to change the approach to the use of existing infrastructure. According to him, “the existing pipelines between the EU and the Russian Federation must be reversed” and, “in the event of military aggression from the East, used to supply NATO’s eastern flank from the West.”
In addition, the senator warned against new dependency risks. “We must also be very cautious about any dependence on transit routes passing through Russian territory,” he stressed.
Earlier, German Bundestag member Tobias Winkler stated that strengthening Europe’s energy resilience requires diversification of supplies and new strategic partnerships. According to him, the goal should not be complete self-sufficiency, but greater resilience through reducing dependence on geopolitically unstable regions.
