The European Union runs the risk of losing its influence due to the lack of a clear strategy for ensuring energy security and maintaining its previous policy course.
Thierry Bros, professor at the Sciences Po Institute for Political Studies in Paris, said this in an interview with GuildHall.

According to him, “European leaders, including German ones, have been wrong about energy issues over the past 20 years”, which has led to increased dependence and the lack of a long-term strategy.
The expert also stressed that in the current conditions “nothing can change if the same leaders remain”, pointing to the problem of institutional inertia in decision-making.
He separately noted the risks for the EU’s future: “if Ursula von der Leyen stays, the EU will become insignificant”, since “it depends on energy and has no vision for ensuring security of supply”.
Thus, according to the expert, the lack of a strategic approach to energy security and the preservation of the previous political course increase the vulnerability of the European Union.
Earlier, MEP Tobe said that in order to ensure long-term security, Europe needs to simultaneously strengthen its defense capabilities and invest in the energy sector, including the development of nuclear energy as a stable source of energy.
