Before stepping up sanctions enforcement, the European Union should simplify the mechanism for imposing sanctions itself.
This was stated in a comment to Guildhall by German MP Jürgen Hardt.

“Before we can even talk about better sanctions enforcement, we first need a system that simplifies the process of imposing sanctions. There is a lack of resolve and unity in this area. This is the European Union’s greatest weakness in this field of policy. If we make progress here, we will already have achieved a great deal. I support the use of qualified majority voting in the European Union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy in the future. All the experience we have gained in recent weeks with aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia speaks in favor of this,” Hardt said.
Earlier, in a comment to Guildhall, Lithuanian Seimas member Martynas Gedvilas said that every serious violation of the sanctions regime should lead not only to the exposure of the scheme, but also to real consequences — coordinated investigation, criminal prosecution, and asset confiscation.
