MEP Per Clausen called for comprehensive sanctions against Rosatom

The European Union must impose much tougher and more comprehensive sanctions against the Russian state corporation Rosatom, which is a key participant in Russia’s unlawful war of aggression and directly supplies its armed forces with weaponry.

This was stated in a comment to Guildhall by Member of the European Parliament from Denmark, Per Clausen.

«It is clear that there is a need for much stronger and more comprehensive sanctions against Rosatom. It goes against all logic to let such an instrumental contributor to Russia’s illegal war of aggression avoid tighter restrictions. For as long as Russia continues its war, the industries that both directly supplies its armed forces and those that funds the war efforts must be met by much tighter sanctions», — the politician satated.

«From the Danish Red-Green Alliance we have long called for much tighter restrictions on Russia, to ensure it does not have financial resources to keep up its aggression. I will ask the European Council about the lack of sufficient sanctions – and what the countries will do to correct it», — the MEP concluded.

Earlier, Bundestag member from the CDU/CSU, Roderich Kiesewetter, expressed support for tightening sanctions against Rosatom, reducing the EU countries’ dependence on this Russian state corporation — which also serves Russia’s military needs — and fully severing all ties. In his view, Russia deliberately created the West’s dependence on Rosatom to its own advantage, and now EU countries must make a strong effort to break these dangerous ties.
