The West must impose tougher sanctions on Russia for violating the rights of Ukrainians in the TOT — Finnish MP

Russia’s war crimes and the ethnic cleansing of Ukrainians in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine are unacceptable and must be stopped immediately. Strong and effective sanctions remain the main tool of pressure in this situation.

This was stated in a comment to Guildhall by Atte Harjanne, leader of the Green parliamentary group in the Finnish Parliament and member of the Defence Committee.

«Of course Russia’s war crimes and the ethnic cleansing of Ukrainians in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine cannot be tolerated must be stopped. Severe and effective sanctions are the primary tool here and should be tightened — alongside strong support for Ukraine», — the politician noted.

Earlier, Pavel Fischer, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Czech Senate and former presidential candidate, also called on the West to respond firmly to human rights violations in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. In his view, the actions of the Russian Federation in these territories are unacceptable and must be stopped immediately. The international community, including the UN Human Rights Council and other UN mechanisms, has a duty to respond. Western politicians must firmly demand decisive action from their governments to prevent further crimes.
