The European Parliament strongly condemns the violent actions of the Russian Federation against Ukrainian children, including killings, forced deportations and relocations, unlawful adoptions, forced Russification and militarization, as well as the coerced displacement, suppression of the Ukrainian language and identity, and systematic pressure aimed at assimilation. These actions violate fundamental norms of international law, and those responsible must be held accountable.
This was stated in a comment to Guildhall by Slovenian Member of the European Parliament Irena Joveva (Renew Europe).
«As a firm believer in international law, not just as a technical framework but as the backbone of the European order we built after decades of immense suffering, I am appalled by the reports from Russian-occupied territories in Ukraine. Forced displacement, the erasure of Ukrainian language and identity, and systematic pressure to assimilate are actions which I strongly condemn. They point to a broader, more troubling strategy of the aggressor», — the politician noted.
«I want to reiterate the position of the European Parliament that strongly condemns the violent actions of the Russian Federation in the mistreatment of Ukrainian children, including murder, forced transfer and deportation, illegal adoption, forced Russification and militarization. These actions violate the basic norms that uphold international law, and those responsible should be held accountable. The EU should sanction individuals and entities implicated in these crimes and aid Ukraine to the full extent to defend itself against such practices», — the MEP concluded.
Earlier, Sebastian Everding, a Member of the European Parliament (The Left group) from Germany, also condemned the ethnic cleansing of Ukrainians in the temporarily occupied territories. The international community must strongly condemn the crimes against humanity committed by the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, which include the forced assimilation of Ukrainian citizens aimed at destroying their linguistic and cultural identity.
