The Left group in the European Parliament called for strengthening Russia’s isolation over human rights violations in the TOT

The West must intensify Russia’s international isolation for its human rights abuses in these temporarily occupied areas, as well as impose stricter trade restrictions, including the consistent application of sanctions.

This was stated in a comment to Guildhall by Sebastian Everding, a Member of the European Parliament from Germany (The Left group).

«The international isolation of Russia must be stepped up as a matter of urgency in order to increase the pressure on the government to finally put an end to human rights violations. First and foremost, there needs to be a greater restriction of trade relations, including consistently applied sanctions. A further reduction in diplomatic relations should also be considered», — the MEP concluded.

Earlier, Udo Bullmann, a Member of the European Parliament from Germany representing the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, stated that Russia must be held accountable for human rights violations in the temporarily occupied territories. In his view, the international community should continue to hold Russia responsible through strict sanctions, diplomatic isolation, and unwavering support for Ukraine. Additionally, coordinated efforts are needed to monitor and document human rights violations, as well as to utilize legal mechanisms to bring the perpetrators to justice.
