The European Parliament called for an end to Russia’s human rights violations in the TOT

The actions of the Russian Federation in these territories constitute a blatant violation of international law and fundamental human rights. This is part of a deliberate policy of repression that demands unequivocal condemnation and immediate action from Western countries to put a stop to these practices.

This was stated in a comment to Guildhall by Udo Bullmann, a Member of the European Parliament from Germany, representing the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.

«Russia’s actions in the occupied territories represent a blatant violation of international law and human rights, reflecting a systemic policy of oppression that must be unequivocally condemned and halted immediately. These practices threaten not only Ukraine’s sovereignty but also the fundamental values of human dignity and democracy that the EU stands for. The international community must maintain strong pressure to stop these atrocities and support Ukraine’s legitimate fight for freedom and justice», — emphasized the politician.

Earlier, Engin Eroglu, a Member of the European Parliament from Germany (Renew Europe Group) and member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, called on the European Parliament to called for strengthening Russia’s isolation over human rights violations in the TOT. He believes it is necessary to document these human rights abuses for their future use in international legal proceedings against war criminals. However, most importantly, the EU must significantly strengthen military support to Ukraine, thereby securing favorable positions for Ukraine in the negotiation process to achieve a sustainable and just peace.
