Western countries must take immediate action to put an end to Russia’s practice of violating human rights in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
This was stated in a comment to Guildhall by Engin Eroglu, Member of the European Parliament from Germany (Renew Europe Group) and member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
«It is well known that Russia is using practices that violate international law in its war of aggression against Ukraine, including the abduction of Ukrainian children. These actions must be stopped unconditionally», — the politician emphasized.
Earlier, Estonian MP Marko Mihkelson also stated that the West must put an end to Russia’s practice of persecuting Ukrainians in the temporarily occupied territories. In his view, Russia must face legal and political consequences for the crimes committed in the occupied areas — deportations, mass killings, the deliberate destruction of Ukrainian culture, historical memory, language, and everything related to Ukraine’s identity. The first necessary step, he said, is the establishment of an international tribunal. These actions by Russia demand an immediate response from the international community and the European Union.
