Russian leadership is afraid of disclosure as soldiers continue to massively refuse to fight against Ukraine — Danylyuk

Russian militaries continue to massively refuse to participate in the war against Ukraine. In fear of disclosure of the current spirit among soldiers and with regard to the mass character of the process, the Russian Armed Forces leaders do not resort to the criminal prosecution of those refusing. For demonstrative punishment in the framework of criminal proceedings, 12 OMON fighters from the Kuban Cossacks were selected, possibly on the basis of the ethnical belonging to Ukrainians.

This was stated the Head of the Centre for Defense Reforms, the coordinator of the interdepartmental platform on hybrid threat countermeasures, which operates within Ukraine-NATO cooperation, Oleksandr V. Danylyuk in his Facebook page.

‘According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russian soldiers keep massively refusing to take part in the military actions against Ukraine. A few days ago, almost the entire personnel of one of the battalion tactical groups (two motorized rifle companies and a mortar battery), which was formed from the 4th military base of the Russian Armed Forces (military unit 66431, Tskhinval, South Ossetia), which were involved in the military actions in Donetsk direction, refused to participate in the war against Ukraine’, — Danylyuk said.

‘On 29 March 2022, they were relocated to the Kuzminsky military training ground (Rostov region), where they had a conversation with the deputy commander of the 58th army for military and political work. However, his calls to continue fighting were not successful’, — he commented.

‘Later on the same day, more than a half of the personnel of one of the companies of the 18th motorized rifle division (m.d. Gusev, Sovetsk, Kaliningrad region) refused to participate in the war. The company belongs to the 11th army corps of the Coastal Forces of the Western Military District of the Russian Armed Forces. Its frontline was near Izyum, a town in Kharkiv region of Ukraine’, — the analyst believes.

‘The leadership of the Russian Federation is trying to resort to criminal prosecution against those refusing to fight against Ukraine, but in the event of massive refusals, they are forced to limit themselves to only disciplinary sanctions. The reason is the fear of a possible disclosure of what is the real spirit among the troops’, — Danylyuk stated.

‘For the public punishment demonstration, commanders decided to prosecute 12 members of the Krasnodar OMON ‘Plastun’ of the National Guard of Russia who refused to go to Ukraine. The majority of them are ethnical Ukrainians (Kuban Cossacks), which also indicates a possible reason for their selection,’ — he summed up.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation leaked the information about large-scale losses in Ukraine

Also, according to the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, during the Russian war against Ukraine, Russian troops lost about 17,300 servicemen. Ukrainian army managed to shoot down over 130 aircraft and destroy over 600 tanks.
